Is Your Anger Getting Out Of Control?

January 13, 2010 by marriage

Do you get angry? Everyone gets angry don’t they, and that’s ok. We all get angry because anger is a preconditioned emotional response to various stressful life situations. But although we all get angry some of us suffer from anger to the point where it can be a serious problem, and some good anger management tips from an anger management book could help.

Anger is a human emotion. Like many emotions it can become overpowering, and get out of control. And for some people this is the case. And if anger becomes uncontrolled it can do serious damage to so many different areas of your life

It can lead to all sorts of unusual behavior. There are so many ways that someone suffering from uncontrolled anger can manifest that. Some are obvious like shouting, but some are not so obvious. For example it can lead to behavior like short temperedness, sullenness, withdrawal into oneself, chronic grumpiness and overt aggression when dealing with other people.

And this can escalate to more serious problems like threats of violence and real violence towards others, including ones own family and children, and friends. When this occurs the anger is way beyond what is normal and must be dealt with.

And this can lead to all sorts of more serious life problems like the breakdown of relationships with family and friends, loneliness and resentment and withdrawal. Life can become a burden and there can be even more serious problems than this.

And it’s not only the life of the anger sufferer that can be at risk, but the overall health as well. There is evidence to suggest that excessive anger can, over time, lead to all sorts of health problems including depression, digestive problems, heart problems, headaches, anxiety and some other related psychological problems, high blood pressure, stroke, skin problems, insomnia and more. Scary isn’t it?

And it can be quite unpredictable when a serious anger attack occurs. It’s often in response to a stressful life event and of course stressful life events happen to everyone, there’s little you can do to avoid some stress and disappointment in your life. But most people get angry, settle down and carry on.

But even though you can’t stop stressful and disappointing things happening to you you can change how you react to them. The event may happen but it’s your reaction, not the event, that is the problem.

If you know that it’s your reaction that is the problem, not the event, this doesn’t mean that you can immediately change how you react, it’s a little harder than that. But it does offer hope that, using some good anger management tips there is something you can do.

There are excellent anger management techniques that are available to anyone who takes the time to learn them. Different techniques work for different people, some may need professional counseling and some may be able to make good use of some simple management techniques to control their anger.

But the good news is that once you take the decision to recognize the problem and get started working on it there are good techniques that you can employ to get the problem under control.

I offer an anger management book on my website full of anger management tips.
