Everyone is jealous at one time or another. It’s a part of human nature. Sometimes jealousy, protective jealousy, is a good thing. If someone is lying to your child, you will stand up for them. If someone is trying to seduce your spouse, you will fight for them. It is when jealousy is out of fear, insecurity or deception that it becomes unhealthy. Jealousy occurs out of resentment that someone has something you feel you deserve or if you lose something to someone else.
There are plenty of reasons to learn how to stop being jealous. Some include our lives being filled with confusion, bitterness, worthlessness and disorder. Any of these feelings are not healthy for someone. Be sure that you will drive friends, family, and spouse away from you. You are not pleasant to be around and you will isolate yourself, which will only make if worse for you.
There are some questions that need to be answered to being learning how to stop being jealous. Is your self-esteem low? Do you have a life of your own? Take a step back and think about your life and what you need in it to make you feel better and start working on it. Only you can change your self-esteem, no one else can.
Talk: To a therapist or with close friends, you do not want to share insecurities about a cheating spouse with just anyone. If you have low self-esteem a therapist can help.
Love yourself: Take time to pamper yourself, join some clubs. Do something for you.
Do fun things with spouse: Relationships are work. Have a date night and be attentive and make sure your spouse is attentive to you.
Be your own best friend: When your child or friend/family talks down negatively, you would tell them to stop. Tell yourself to stop also. This may be the hardest part but you need to consciously tell yourself stop and make yourself think about something else. The more you do this, the easier it will be and soon you will find yourself not caring about what others have and loving what you have. You can learn how to stop being jealous and start living a better life for you.
